About Me

I’m Beth, I’m a junior at UNLV in Las Vegas majoring in print journalism with a minor in political science. I’m starting this blog for my advanced reporting class at the behest of my wonderful and insightful professor, Charlotte Anne Lucas. I am very interested in a lot of causes so I’ve decided to dedicate my blogging this semester to one I’m quite passionate about; animals. There are so many stories circulating around with animals in the center and it’s amazing that more people don’t realize they are there. Some are human interest stories about pigs that let their owners know the house is on fire etc., but there are many others circulating about real issues facing all of us all over the world.

More on me I guess….

I recently moved to Las Vegas from Wisconsin although I’m originally from Iowa, which I still consider my “home”. I came back to school a few years ago after having my kids (Dylan is 11 and Ariana is 4). I won’t tell you how old I am, but I will say that I started having kids young so I’m not as old as you might first figure! I have an associates degree from the University of Wisconsin so now I’m working on the bachelor’s degree. Before that I worked as a nursing assistant, a dispatcher for a cable company and a waitress/bartender so I have a lot of different life experiences to bring to my education.  In my down time, I like to travel and I hope to do some soon while doing research for this blog.  I also work part time as a math tutor at an elementary school here in town. My first passion is writing, which seems to suit my chosen career. I hope this blogging thing will help me to hone my skills a little.
